The Memorial Garden and Covenant Garden

Two garden spaces described in the parish history and preserved in the 1997 online galleries.

The Memorial Garden

During Jane Gurry’s ministry, St. Mark’s developed a Memorial Garden. The congregation’s history describes provision both for the interment of ashes and for the names of parish members buried elsewhere. [1]

A second space, the Covenant Garden, took a different form. Set aside in the early 1990s, it was allowed a more natural pattern of growth and offered a place for quiet meditation. The parish affectionately called its gardeners the Lay Weeders.[1]

The gardens in the surviving record

Both garden names appear in the old website’s photo galleries preserved in December 1997. That date belongs to the archived webpages; it does not establish when the photographs were taken. [6]

A family memorial for Jeanne Ann Glass Seaver, published in 2024, refers to diocesan care for the Memorial Garden after the parish closed. [31]
